Richard Frost
Artist
My photographs appear to be abstract art, but they are literally photo realism...
My photographs look like paintings. I am painting with photographs. I don't expect the viewer to see what I have in mind, since we are all unique, and see things differently.
It all began on my daily walks with a point and shoot Canon camera. Some photographers take pictures of insects and flowers; I shoot the street. The work focuses on capturing the mundane and transforming it into something extraordinary.
As I progressed, I developed a method of cutting-up the photographs and pasting them back on to themselves creating a sensation of movement and form. A whole new world presents itself. The images merge, push, and pull. I emphasize the visual drama by using a strong composition, contrasting forms, and a myriad of colors.
My inspiration comes from a multitude of stimuli: a book, a film, a piece of music, a field, another artist’s work; almost anything will send me on the creative process.
